Van Winkle 12 Year Old Family Reserve 1980s / Stitzel-Weller
This is an incredibly rare example of the Van Winkle 12 year old. A precursor to the Lot B Special Reserve that is still produced at Buffalo Trace today, this is a Family Reserve release, and was bottled by Julian Van Winkle III in the late 1980s at his Old Commonwealth facility in Lawrenceburg (formerly Hoffman distillery).
Julian III purchased the plant in 1983 and began bottling bourbon purchased from Stitzel-Weller following the sale of the distillery to Somerset Imports in 1972.
Stitzel-Weller was eventually shut down by United Distillers in 1992, and dwindling stocks forced him to form a partnership with Buffalo Trace to produce new bourbon for his brands. They were already producing W.L Weller products using his family's old formula.
These early 1980s examples, bottled with old Stitzel-Weller whiskey in Lawrenceburg are real collector's items.
We would recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids. If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please contact us for a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise lots will be sold as seen in the images.
Please note: Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit.
