Wathen's Single Barrel Kentucky Bourbon 1998
The Wathen's brand is bottled in Missouri by the Charles Medley Distilling Co. This is a company with a rich lineage in the bourbon world. Both the Wathens and the Medleys were Kentucky distilling dynasties that eventually were married together. The Wathens were responsible for the the prohibition dodging American Medicinal Spirts Co, who eventually became the corporate juggernaut, National Distillers. The Medleys on the other hand ran the successful distillery of the same name on Owensboro. It was their rye that made up the original batch of the much-loved Van Winkle Family Reserve.
Despite using the old Medley distillery name, the Missouri operation is a Non-Distiller Producer (NDP), who source their bourbon from other places.
Barrel #49 was bottled in 1998.
