1 Bonnington 2020 Unpeated ex-Bourbon Barrel #1055 - Charity Lot

Filled on 2 November 2020, this lot is a cask of single malt spirit from the Bonnington distillery in Edinburgh.

John Crabbie & Co traces its roots back to 1801 when Miller Crabbie established himself as a merchant in Edinburgh. Under the guidance of his son, John, the company became a force in the whisky blending business, operating the Haddington grain distillery int he mid-19th century. John Crabbie was intrumental in the building of the North British distillery in Edinburgh, and acted as it first chairman. Like so many others, John Crabbie & Co eventually became part of DCL, in 1963, before passing to Macdonald & Muir, under whom its whisky portfolio became dormant. In 2007, Halewood International purchased the brand, and ten years later revived its interest in whisky. In the same year, the acquired land near the original John Crabbie offices, and construction of the Bonnington distillery commenced. Works were completed in December 2019, and production of its new Edinburgh single malt began. The distillery operated bespoke Ogee stills from Speyside Copper Works, and has a capacity of 500,000 litres per year.

This is a unique opportunity to buy a cask from the new distillery. Successful purchase will include 10 years of storage and insurance, a distillery visit, and tasting available on request.

This lot has been generously donated by Halewood Artisinal Spirits in support of The BEN.

Whisky Auctioneer is delighted to have partnered with Scottish drinks industry charity, The BEN. They have created a collection of rare and exclusive whiskies, donated by their respective companies in order to raise funds for those in the drinks industry who have fallen on hard times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The charity supports people of all ages who have worked in the licensed trade with beneficiaries receiving annual financial assistance as well as discretionary one-off grants for emergency situations.  The BEN has been inundated with applications for support due to the devastating impact Covid-19 has had upon the industry.  The BEN must generate funds annually, mainly from events and donations.  Clearly at this time it is not possible to hold events and therefore it is critical that funds are generated using other methods to support the people of Scotland.

The Ben charity bottles are available exclusively through our December 2020 auction, which runs from December 23rd 2020 until January 11th 2021.

Please note if the new owner is a UK revenue trader (business), they will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.

If they are a revenue trader outside the UK, they will need to have a Duty Representative in the UK (the Duty Rep would be registered with HMRC and there is usually an annual charge for their services).

All relevant paperwork will accompany this purchase. Ownership of the cask will be transferred once payment is processed post auction. Any costs relating to removal from storage, bottling and duty/tax payments will become the responsibility of the new owner.
