Jura 2001 Single Sherry Cask 19 Year Old #1708

Whisky Auctioneer is delighted to have partnered with Whyte & Mackay to offer this exclusive single cask release. The auction coincides with the Whyte & Mackay Cares initiative, a program inspired by the heroics of Captain Tom Moore during the COVID-19 lockdown, the 100 year-old who raised millions of pounds for the NHS by walking laps of his garden. In the same vein, Whyte & Mackay employees to date have tallied enough miles by foot, bicycle or row-boat to have circumnavigated the Earth twice. Their sponsored efforts are raising money for mental health charities around the world, with all proceeds from this auction donated to SAMH (Scotland’s Association for Mental Health).

The Isle of Jura is one of the most isolated in the Hebridean archipelago, and by all logical accounts an unusual place to build a distillery. However, the historic site was re-opened in the 1960s, in part to provide jobs to what was a declining population at the time. The rebuilding of the distillery was backed by blenders Charles Mackinlay & Co so, despite the island being covered in peat, it produced an un-peated spirit to meet the needs of their blends. This continued into the 1990s when Whyte & Mackay became its owners, although they did eventually introduce some peated malt to their distilling, launching the Jura Superstition in 2003.

Distillery Cask #1708 was an ex-sherry butt, filled with unpeated single malt spirit on 1st May 2001 and bottled and sealed by and at the distillery on 10th August 2020.

All 470 bottles of this special charity release are available exclusively through this auction, which runs from Friday 25th September until Monday 5th October.
