Highland Park 50 Year Old 2018 Release / Charity Lot + Experience

An absolutely stunning release from Orkney's legendary Highland Park distillery.

Highland Park was built by David Robertson all the way back in 1798. The distillery's relationship with blenders, Robertson & Baxter, saw it acquired by Highland Distillers in 1937, who were subsequently bought by Edrington in 1999, who run it today. The modern Highland Park single malt brand was first officially bottled in the 1970s, with the release of an 8 year old age statement, but distillery bottlings first appeared around the 1950s. The look of the brand has changed many times over the years, but its cult following and popularity has never diminished. It remains one of the most recognisable single malts in the world to this day.

The liquid is a vatting of just two Spanish oak, sherry seasoned, hogshead casks which were filled in 1964. The casks had lay undisturbed at the back of warehouse number 7 at the Highland Park distillery until 2008 when they were first sampled and considered to be of astonishing quality. Due to the incredible quality of the liquid, it was decided to transport the casks separately to Highland Parks warehouse in Glasgow where they were married. When they brought the two casks together, a small amount of the original Highland Park 50 Year Old released in 2010 was added to the vatting. The liquid was then bottled in 2018.

The whisky is presented in a decorative glass bottle, produced by Scottish designer, Andy Bowman and inspired by the distillery’s Norse ancestry. A beautiful oak box designed and handcrafted by Scottish Master Craftsman, John Galvin holds the whisky alongside a polished crystal decanter and a brown leather book which provides an insight into the development of this exquisite 50 Year Old.

A limited release of only 274 bottles, each one is individually numbered and hand-signed by Edrington's longest serving Whisky Maker, Max McFarlane.
