Bruichladdich 1984 Whisky of Mass Distinction / WMD I
Like its island neighbour Bunnahabhain distillery, Bruichladdich has traditionally been an un-peated single malt, mostly owing to its requirements by the blenders who owned it. The last of these was Whyte & Mackay, who eventually shut it down in 1995, deeming it surplus to requirements. They sold the distillery to Murray McDavid in 2001, who launched the peated Port Charlotte and heavily-peated Octomore single malts in 2006 and 2008. A recommissioned Lomond still also now produces the popular Botanist gin there.
Back in 2003, Inverleven distillery was dismantled and some copper stills and distilling equipment were loaded onto a boat which then travelled past Faslane (home of the UK's nuclear arsenal). The CIA got involved and began to investigate Bruichladdich for producing Weapons of Mass destruction. Bruichladdich smelled opportunity and got the media involved. This was released during the ensuing publicity.
Composed from the totally non-lethal combination of 60% refill bourbon barrels, 20% refill Oloroso casks, and 20% refill Fino casks. The tongue in cheek bottling hammers its message home with a tribute to George Orwell, titled Big Brother on the back label.
One of 440 bottles.
We would recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids. If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please contact us for a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise lots will be sold as seen in the images.
Please note: Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit.
