Stone Castle Special Reserve Old No.53 Kentucky Bourbon

An incredibly rare bottle of Kentucky bourbon, this was bottled by the son of Cecil Withrow as a tribute to his later father in November 2001. Cecil Withrow had bought the abandoned and dilapidated Old Taylor distillery in 1994, intending to renovate it and eventually commence distilling again. Sadly the project could not be financed and he ended up renting out warehouse space to Wild Turkey and Jim Beam, and converting another into a mall for arts and crafts fairs. Withrow had initially bought some casks from George T. Stagg distillery and had wanted to bottle them as 10 year old bourbon, however was forced to dump them earier when his renovation plans finally fell through. Sadly, Cecil had a heart attack and died just after the first bottling run was completed. The bottles are recognisable by their yellow labels and as the first to make use of this bottle shape, later used by Julian Van Winkle III for the first Michter's brand revival bottlings.

The Stone Castle Special Reserve No.53 was bottled in 2001 and is believed to be a small batch produced from barrels of Wild Turkey bourbon.

They were all distilled on 26th November 1991 and was bottled exactly ten years later in 2001, which was exactly one year on from Cecil's death.
