COP26 Limited Edition Scotch Whisky - Charity Lot

This is a limited edition blended Scotch whisky produced to commemorate the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), which was held in Glasgow. The conference saw the attendance of over twenty-five thousand delegates from 200 countries and around 120 heads of state from across the world. The purpose of the conference was to discuss current and new pledges in the global effort towards combatting climate change.

Produced by the Scotch Whisky Association, this bottle was commissioned not only to commemorate COP26, but to also highlight the industry's commitments to cutting the sector's emissions to net zero by 2040.

"We’re incredibly proud of the way that the Scotch Whisky industry has come together to tackle the climate crisis across its supply chain. This limited edition Scotch Whisky for COP26 will be a reminder to those gathering in Glasgow of the collaborative spirit the industry brings to driving down our environmental impact, the progress the sector has made to date, and the efforts now being made to go further and faster to reach our net zero goal."

- Karen Betts, Chief Executive of the Scotch Whisky Association

The blend is comprised of whiskies from 26 distilleries across Scotland’s five regions and in keeping with the environmentally friendly theme, the bottle is made from 97% recycled glass, with a fully recyclable stopper, recycled wood and recycled cork particles. The label paper contains 55% post-consumer recycled fibres, including leftover barley from the whisky production process.

Only 900 bottles were created, the majority of which were given to heads of state and delegates who attended the event.

Whisky Ventures Charity Lot

In May 2022, Rob Richardson embarked on the Whisky Ventures Ride, a charity challenge that involved cycling over 2,000 miles, across the length and breadth of Scotland via every operating distillery. The ride started at the Bladnoch Distillery in Dumfries and Galloway, and finished 49 days later at the Saxa Vord Distillery on the Isle of Unst, Shetland.

Many of the distilleries generously donated a bottle to assist in raising funds for the selected charities. Whisky Auctioneer is honoured to partner with Rob to offer these at auction within our September 2022 Auction.

All of the proceeds from the Whisky Venture charity lots, including Whisky Auctioneer’s buyer’s commission, will go to two charities of Rob’s choice:

Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most across the UK through numerous amazing programs and projects. Their mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in our communities who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect or have additional needs.

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance operate two emergency medical helicopters, one based in Perth, the other Aberdeen. Covering the whole of Scotland, they respond to time-critical emergency calls alongside their partners at the Scottish Ambulance Service. However, the charity receives no government funding, so rely 100% on donations from the public to operate their life-saving flights.
