product Details

Lopez de Heredia Cepa-Medoc 37.5cl

A very old bottle of Rioja red wine produced by the historic Viña Tondonia estate, and bearing the name of the winery's founder - Don Rafael Lopez de Heredia - on the label.

This wine was produced in honour of the partnerships forged between French and Spanish vignerons/winemakers when the great vineyards of France fell victim to, and were decimated by, the phylloxera louce.  French merchants realised the quality of wines produced in Rioja and set about creating blends in the style of their own Bordeaux'.  Thus, this wine was called "Cepa Medoc" after the heavily vine-planted Medoc peninsula of Bordeaux, and features a blend of native Riojan Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.

We estimate this bottle to be from the early 1900s.
