WARI Charity Bottles DEC The Whisky & Rum Investors: Raising Funds for Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal

Back to news

Whisky Auctioneer is delighted to have partnered with the Whisky and Rum Investors to hold a spotlight charity auction as part of our May whisky auction. The online group hosted an appeal for donations to raise funds for those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey & Syria. 23 exciting bottles have been generously donated via their online appeal and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.

The Whisky and Rum Investors

The Whisky and Rum Investors Facebook group was created two years ago by passionate whisky & rum enthusiasts, Ilya Bykov and Jared Cave, with the aim to provide a discussion space for all things whisky and rum, from investing to drinking.

Whisky Auctioneer has been delighted to build a partnership with the Whisky and Rum Investors over the last two years that provides a global community of whisky lovers with unique opportunities. In April 2022, we joined forces to host an exclusive charity auction to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal which raised over £10,000.

We are once again delighted to partner with them to support their latest charitable initiative.

Unfortunately, we are sometimes faced with terrible events and back in February we simply couldn't sit back and watch how people affected by the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria were suffering, so we decided to contribute by any means we can.

Our society has over 14,000 members across Facebook and Instagram and over the years we’ve also built a great network of contacts at many prominent distilleries, so we decided to reach out to all of our contacts to appeal for bottles that could be auctioned. The response was overwhelmingly positive with many members and distilleries donating exclusive and rare bottles. Whisky Auctioneer have been very supportive and offered free use of their platform and put forward significant marketing effort towards promoting the bottles.

We are really looking forward to the auction and hope that the funds raised will make a difference to the people in Turkey and Syria.

Spotlight Charity Auction: 26 May - 5 June 2023

Whisky Auctioneer is privileged to assist the Whisky and Rum Investors in raising funds for such a worthy cause and is set to exclusively auction the donated bottles in our May auction (26 May - 5 June 2023) with all profits, including Whisky Auctioneer’s buyer’s commission, donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.

One of the most notable highlights is a 1992 vintage of Glenfiddich which was donated from the private collection of Brian Kinsman (Glenfiddich Malt Master and Master Blender at William Grant & Sons). One of just 36 bottles, the Glenfiddich 1992 Private Cask bottling was gifted to Brian for his role in the Drambuie acquisition project. This is available for the first time at Whisky Auctioneer.

The charity auction will also feature a rarely-seen bottling of Glenfarclas 8 year old from the 1970s and a Duty Paid Sample bottling of Springbank - the only bottlings of their kind drawn from a single cask on a single day, making every one completely unique.

Other highlights include a selection of bottles signed by master distillers at popular distilleries including Ardbeg Committee releases, limited-edition Highland Park expressions, a hand-filled single cask Glenallachie and a lightly peated single malt release from the small Isle of Raasay distillery.

Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is a charitable organisation that brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas - since their launch in 1963, DEC has raised £2.2 billion for charity appeals.

In early-2023, devestating earthquakes struck southern Turkey and north-west Syria with over 18 million people affected. The DEC launched the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal shortly after to provide urgent aid to those in need. DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders providing medical care, shelter, food, water, blankets and heating.

In these times of crisis, people in life-and-death situations need our help and our mission is to save, protect and rebuild lives through effective humanitarian response.

Pooling our resources to work as one, we are pivotal in co-ordinating the UK public's response to overseas disasters.
