A glimpse at Whisky Auctioneer's year in review, spotlighting key highlights and statistics from 2020...

A time of year where everyone is looking forward, we can't help but look back at 2020. A year of undoubtable challenges for all, we want to thank everyone who has supported our team and contributed to making 2020 one of Whisky Auctioneer’s most successful years yet.

We’ve created a glimpse back at our year in review to share some of the key highlights from 2020. View our infographic here

COMMUNITY

Over the course of the year, we welcomed 13 new members of staff to Whisky Auctioneer in various roles across Customer Service, Operations, Finance and Warehouse.

Whisky Auctioneer also became an international company as we opened an office in Germany to better serve our European community of whisky lovers.

Over 7,945 whisky lovers registered to join our ever-growing community, and we welcome you all with open arms.

Sadly, the current situation has meant that we haven’t been able to get face to face with you at some of our favourite events in the whisky calendar. We missed you all dearly and so we launched our first Instagram Live events so that we could stay connected with you. We also hosted some very special virtual events for global media which were a lot fun, but don’t just take our word for it:

“Thank you so much for sharing such wonderful whiskies with us. Definitely a memory made here.” Becky Paskin, Spirits Journalist, Whisky Specialist and Consultant

“It’s been a pleasure learning about this amazing collection and sharing drams virtually with everyone!” Nino Kilgore-Marchetti, The Whiskey Wash

PARTNERSHIPS

We have been delighted to build industry partnerships with some amazing individuals and companies during 2020 that provided our global community of whisky lovers with unique opportunities and original content, curated seven exclusive auctions and offered access to some of the most impressive private collections in the world.

As the devastating impact of the global Coronavirus pandemic became evident, we collaborated with Whisky Sponge to raise funds for our local NHS services in Tayside for those who are working tirelessly to care for patients and undertake research to bring COVID-19 to a close.

We continued to partner with and support those looking to undertake charitable fundraising through our auctions, leading to over £415,000 being raised for charitable causes through our auctions in 2020. Key partners included Glenfiddich, Daftmill, Nc’nean, Lindores Abbey and Jura with causes supporting the Australian bushfire crisis, mental health charities, local health funds and hospitality charities affected by COVID-19 and various environmental causes.

CREATIVE ENERGY

We created a series of engaging in-house video content for you all and it looks like you loved it with over 2,771 hours of created video content watched during 2020.

We developed new ways to share information and get you excited about the whisky featuring in our auctions, including interactive digital magazines and downloadable Collector’s Guides.

We love social media as it gives us the means to reach and interact with over 75,000 followers from all corners of the globe! Our most interacted post from 2020 was our Glenfiddich: Spirit of Speyside announcement with 1.7k likes, 19 comments and 56 shares.

In 2020 we also updated our website to be consistent with our brand refresh and introduced new features such as our Help section to improve customer experience on our site.

RECOGNITION

A year of many incredible milestones, Whisky Auctioneer kicked off celebrations by becoming the first online whisky auction house to sell a million-dollar bottle of whisky. We also broke several world records, including the highest price ever achieved for an inaugural whisky release with Nc’nean’s Ainnir Organic Single Malt Whisky achieving a hammer price of £41,000.

During 2020, Whisky Auctioneer was featured in over 1,000 pieces of press coverage with an estimated number of views over 19 million.

As we enter a new year, we want to personally express our gratitude to our customers for your ongoing support and patience as our business, like so many others, has tackled challenges new and old throughout 2020. We wish you all the best for 2021.

Eilidh Jack
