This 8-year-old was produced in the 1980s when the distillery was owned by Arthur Bell & Sons, who acquired it in 1983. They licensed the distillery to P. Mackenzie & Co Distillers, the blending operation that they acquired along with Dufftown and Blair Athol in the 1930s and operated as a subsidiary until they were taken over by Guinness in 1985.
A distillery with a turbulent history, punctuated by numerous ownership changes. It is currently part of the Pure Scot Ltd holdings of Australian entrepreneur and yoghurt mogul, David Prior. Although historically operated for the provision of blends, it is now focussed on its single malt brand.

Distillery Bottling is a term used to define a whisky bottled by the company that produced it, using the official branding of the distillery itself. This is also known as an "official bottling" or sometimes shortened to OB.
