The oldest operational distillery on the isle of Islay, built in 1779. Today it is part of the Suntory Group, having been acquired by the Japanese company in 1994. Under their ownership is has been nurtured into one of the most collectable names in Scotch whisky.

A former subsidiary of William Cadenhead, established to manage its Aberdeen branch after J&A Mitchell acquired the company in 1972 and moved it to Campbeltown.
