Komagatake is the brand name used by Hombo Shuzo to bottle single malt whisky from its Shinshu distillery and takes its name from Mt. Komagatake, at the foot of which the disitllery is located in the Nagano prefecture. It was first introduced in 1998 with the release of Mars Maltage Komagatake and intrmittently released inthe years following as the company bottled single casks from the dwindling stock of its then-closed distillery.
Shinshu re-opened in 2011 and the brand was relaunched in 2014 when the first spirit from its second production era came of age, with the first of these a 6,000-bottle release called The Revival. Its core range dos not have a permanent expression currently, favouring instead to release small batch annual editions.
