Built in 1812 by Harrison Blanton, Buffalo Trace is one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the US. By the turn of the millennium, it was ideally positioned to capitalise on the emerging popularity of well-aged, premium whiskey, and the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection was born in 2000. Its inaugural instalment offered prestige expressions of the company’s W.L. Weller and Eagle Rare labels, and a new one called Sazerac Rye. The collection celebrates the brands and individuals most important to the distillery and its parent company, and was soon expanded to include new products called George T. Stagg and second rye called Thomas H. Handy Sazerac.
Often affectionately referred to by the acronym BTAC, a new instalment in the series is released annually in an event that marks one of the most important days on the calendar for American whiskey enthusiasts around the world.
