A Highland malt distillery that makes up the John Dewar & Sons portfolio, providing whisky for The Deveron brand. Its single malt has also previously been known as Glen Deveron while the name Macduff is found only on independent bottlings.
William Lawson Distillers was a subsidiary firm set up by Martini & Rossi in 1972 which amalgamated its existing Clan Munro operation and managed its newly acquired distillery, Macduff. Its chief brands were the William Lawson’s and Kind Edward I blends, and the Glen Deveron label, which was intended to sound more marketable in Italy than the name Macduff.
Bacardi acquired Martini & Rossi in 1993, and eventually replaced William Lawson Distillers as its Scotch division with John Dewar & Sons. It continues to market the William Lawson’s blend however, which is now the sixth biggest selling in the world.
