Peter Dominic Ltd is currently a non-trading subsidiary of the Whitbread Group in the UK. A historic name, the company was founded in 1939 by Paul Dauthieu, a Scotsman of French heritage. His first shop was opened in Horsham in 1939 and after steady growth, the business was sold to International Distillers & Vintners (IDV) in 1963 for £750,000. Within five years it had renamed all 354 of its off-license retail units as Peter Dominic. The Peter Dominic group was then separated from IDV in 1989 by Grand Metropolitan and sold in 1991 to Threshers who rebranded the stores in their own name.
The name is well-known in whisky terms as the company bottled a number of its own blends and independent bottlings. A collection of vintage Smith's Glenlivet bottlings form the 1960s and 1970s are perhaps the most notable of the latter.
