Teaninich is a Speyside malt whisky distillery that was established by Captain Hugh Munro in 1817 and it is today part of the Diageo Scotch whisky holdings. It was sold to Distillers Company by the estate of Robert Cameron Innes in 1933 and provided essential fillings for its blended Scotch brands. So much so that it was expanded in 1970 when a new unit called the A side was built with an extra six stils. Although the original B side was shut in 1984, the distillery was expanded again with another six stills in 2015.
Despite its ever increasing output, very little Teaninich single malt is ever bottled officially and it is mostly only found in the catalogues of independent bottlers.
Such is the importance of Teaninich to blenders, the first official single malt bottlings were not produced until 1991. The first of these was a rare 12-year-old produced to commemorate its re-opening after a period in mothballs since 1985. The first publicly available bottling was the 10-year-old Flora & Fauna release which followed later that year and remains the only permanent offering to this day.
Other official releases include a Manager's Choice release from 2009, a Diageo Special Release in 2017 and occasional other limited editions such as Casks of Distinction single casks.
