Back to news

Secret Speyside, an exceptional collection of rare single malt Scotch whiskies from Chivas Brothers has revealed its most exclusive expressions yet; the Secret Speyside Single Cask Editions. This outstanding new series comprises ten ultra-rare single cask releases, aged between 25 and 29 years and coming from four of the most revered and elusive distilleries in the renowned Speyside region, including the vanished distillery of Caperdonich, the pioneering Longmorn distillery, the landmark Glen Keith distillery, and the remote Braes of Glenlivet distillery.

A complete set comprising one bottle from each of the ten casks has been reserved exclusively for Whisky Auctioneer's February Auction and will be the one and only time the ten bottles will be available to purchase as a collection. The online auction is taking place from the 25th February to the 7th March. In addition to the complete set of the Secret Speyside Single Cask Editions, the successful bidder will also have the opportunity to join an intimate experience to celebrate the Secret Speyside portfolio with legendary master distiller, Alan Winchester. 100% of the proceeds from the hammer price achieved for the collection at auction will be donated to charity.

The Secret Speyside Single Cask Editions expertly showcase the depth and diversity behind the distinguished Speyside distilleries celebrated as part of the existing collection, as each new release bears an undiscovered character that is entirely unique to its individual cask. The expressions have been matured in ten separate American Oak casks, the majority of which were first fill, all meticulously monitored across the years and drawn at their individual pinnacle moment. The result is a series of ten rare and distinctive new flavour profiles that can never be repeated.

Alan Winchester, a Chivas Brothers Scotch whisky icon with over 30 years of Speyside distilling experience and curator of the first collection from Secret Speyside, commented:

“It is always a satisfying moment for a distiller or a blending team when we realise a cask we’ve been monitoring for a number of years stands out as being worthy of bottling all by itself. The introduction of ten new captivating Single Cask releases is a tribute to the exceptional skill and uncompromising dedication that is behind Secret Speyside.

Over decades of maturation, an incredibly distinctive range of flavours have developed inside each cask and these stunning new releases, bottled at cask strength, represent an impressive depth to Speyside that is just waiting to be discovered.”

Joe Wilson, Head Curator and Spirits Specialist at Whisky Auctioneer said:

Although all four distilleries featured in Chivas Brothers’ Secret Speyside collection have been prominent on the independent bottling scene for decades, there has been an often-inescapable intrigue as to the profile of the casks the company opted to reserve for itself.

Introduced in 2019, the collection provided the first answers to this question, expanding upon the limited scope of the existing Longmorn and Glen Keith brands, while introducing a new one for Caperdonich, its first since the 1970s, and Braes of Glenlivet, its first ever.

Now, this new release of single cask whiskies demonstrates for the first time what the distillers themselves believe to be the finest examples of single malt from each of these unique distilleries, and the characteristics that make them stand out from the shadows of the crowded Speyside region.
